Moving to Clarksville: First 30 Days

A practical checklist for Fort Campbell families settling in.

Short answer: In your first month, set up utilities, confirm school and healthcare arrangements, update your vehicle and license information as required, and learn your commute. Then give yourself time to find your favorite places in town.

A move is easier with a list. Here is the order I suggest to my relocation clients.

Before and during move-in

  1. Utilities. Inside Clarksville city limits, electric and internet commonly come through CDE Lightband and water and gas through Clarksville Gas and Water. Confirm what serves your exact address, especially outside the city.
  2. Mail and address changes. Update your address with your bank, employer, insurers, and the post office.
  3. Home basics. Test smoke detectors, locate the water shutoff and breaker panel, and change the locks if you can.
  4. Trash and recycling. Ask the city or your HOA how pickup works.

In the first two weeks

  1. Schools. Clarksville-Montgomery County School System registration requires proof of address and records. Verify your zone by address.
  2. Healthcare. Confirm your TRICARE coverage and primary care arrangements. Fort Campbell has military medical facilities, and many families also use local providers.
  3. Vehicle and license. Rules differ for service members and civilians. Ask the county clerk or the state about what applies to you.
  4. Commute. Drive to your gate at your real report time so you know what to expect.

By day 30

  1. Register to vote or update your voter registration if it applies to you.
  2. Find a dentist, vet, barber or stylist, and a go-to grocery store.
  3. Explore downtown Clarksville, the riverfront, and local parks.
  4. Connect with neighbors, your child's school, and community groups.
